I am taking a little writing break today, but you can enjoy this lovely picture of Stasuma Mandarins (tangerines):
I purchased this little beauty today from Whole Foods, and it is really delicious. It's one of those things that makes you eat it thoughtfully, thinking "what could I do with this?" when the answer is - Eat it just the way it comes! I thought it was very charming that the stems and leaves were left on (a sure way to get me to buy something), but the truth is, the skin removes very easily after the fruit is ripe, and they have to be picked this way - snipped from the tree - to protect the flesh inside. The flesh is sweet but a little tart, spicy and complex. Think I might use the rind in some sort of vodka infusion...
I am going to Kihachi tonight. Keep your fingers crossed that the chef will let me take pictures of everything. It's for your own good!!
