Upcoming Columbus Events

Pumpkin

Wait!  Just because we're after Labor Day doesn't mean the festival season is over!  We still have these great events coming up:

The Reynoldsburg Tomato Festival is happening even as we speak!  Sept 6th-10th at Civic Park in Reynoldsburg.

The Columbus Microbrew Festival will feature Columbus' 6 microbrews; $12 buys you a glass and 6 tasting tickets.  September 16th at the North Market.  It might be your first opportunity to see the new Columbus Dispatch kitchen, so go!

The Ohio Paw Paw festival will take place at Lake Snowden in Albany, Ohio (near Athens) on September 16-17; a reader e-mailed a recap to me last year and it sounded like a lot of fun.  You might be asking, just what is a paw paw?  Well, it's Ohio's only native citrus fruits, first of all; it is a custardy, rather banana-like fruit with a lot of sweetness.  Grown in the wild, it is rarely cultivated and almost never makes it to market -  you have to live near it to enjoy it.

I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be eating on Saturday, September 23rd than the Columbus India Festival.  Just the thought of the smell of all the curry is making me hungry.  India Festival takes place at Vet's memorial and costs $5.

The Columbus Food and Wine Affair takes place Friday, September 29th and is a lovely event at Franklin Park Conservatory.  Best of all, they allow industry types in before the event for tasting.  Last year I helped Chef make shrimp and grits for the 500 attendees.

Discover your inner Soprano at the Columbus Italian Festival, September 29th-October 1st at St. John the Baptist Italian Catholic Church, corner of Lincoln and 4th St. in Italian Village.  Bonus - you can buy tickets to get into Italian festival and German festival for $10 for the entire weekend.  Oh!  the sausages!

As implied above, also on the weekend of September 29th-October 1st is Oktoberfest in German Village!  Sausages, beer, and cream puffs.  What could be better?!

October 7th will be the Harvest Festival at the North Market.

On what will probably be the last Farmer's Market of the year for Worthington, October 14th, there will be a new event: the Fall Festival

The Circleville Pumpkin show, where one can see 1000 pound pumpkins and eat an amazing assortment of pumpkin-related food, takes place at 159 E Franklin St. in Circleville October 18th-21st, and admission is free.

The Columbus International Festival takes place November 4th-5th at Vets Memorial and features lots of food and entertainment for $7.

Support a local farm by going to Fall Fun Days at Circle S Farm in Grove City, September 28th-October 31st.  You can indulge all you farm-related childhood fears by venturing into their 6 acre corn maze.  A maize maze!!
