Updated Friday Morning, new events at end of list.
Is anyone else beginning to wonder if the leaves are going to change? I did hear earlier in the year that due to our lack of rain this summer, there wouldn't not be a lot of color, but I was sitting on our third floor yesterday, looking out over the rooftops, and there were green treetops as far as the eye could see. But it's still time for the Circleville Pumpkin Festival! And, of course, there are lots and lots of Halloween events going on this time of year, including some which are quite educational and take place at great spots around the city, so take advantage of them.
As always, leave any additional events in the comments!
- So, first up is the Circleville Pumpkin Festival. The pumpkin festival celebrates all things pumpkin - baked goods, burgers, the largest pumpkin weigh-in - and runs today through Sunday, 10am - 11pm daily.
- BalletMet will perform their (seemingly) annual Dracula, for only one week this year. Performances are today through Sunday at varying times (including a Sunday matinee). Click to their website for exact times and ticket prices.
- This week it's Halloween at the Longaberger factory. There will mazes and other spooooky events. And who doesn't want to see the world's largest basket dressed up for Halloween?
- Through October 29th, it's Boo at the Zoo! For regular Zoo admission, you can smash pumpkins and meet Spiderman.
- The Columbus Landmarks Foundation has several haunted tours going on this season - some are walking tours, and there is even a Dead End bus tour. Ticket prices and event time vary, so visit their website for more information.
- The Vienna Boys Choir will preform this Sunday at the Palace. Visit CAPA for more information.
- This weekend, Alexander Kobrin will preform Rachmaninoff (and others) with the Colunbus Symphony Orchestra. The performances include a Sunday matinee. Visit the CSO website for further details.
- Of course, this weekend is the Columbus Marathon. I have a few crazy friends who are running. Have fun, kitties! I'll be sitting on the couch thinking of you. However, if you would like to be more supportive, Columbus Independent has some tips for being a good spectator.
- This week's cooking classes at Sur la Table are as follows: Sushi 101 with Yokiko Bates (Thurs, 10/18 $75); Pasta Master Class with Sheri Lisak (Fri, 10/19); Cooking Meat with Tom Johnson (Tues 10/23); The Japanese Kitchen with Yokiko Bates (next Thurs, 10/25). All classes take place at 6:30pm and cost $65 unless otherwise noted. Click to the calender for more information.
- This Week at Whole Foods, you can learn how to make healthier family meals with registered dietician Susan Patton - Thursday, 10/18.
- Sunday is the Troma Film Festival at Studio 35. See 4 independent films (from Troma Films), one of which was directed & produced by local resident and Bexley mayoral hopeful, Travis Irvine. Admission is a mere $10. Sunday, noon - 6.
