After the monsoons of last week, the cool sunshine this week is very welcome (at least, to me). The sweet peas are ripe, raspberries should be out this week; I had my first fried green tomatoes at Alana's last week, and we're in full grilling season. It's my favorite time of the year!
This is the time of year when there are so many events to list it's hard to know where to start!
As always, please leave our events in the comments!
- But, let's start of with the North Market, shall we? This Saturday is the Grillmaster's Festival! There will be cooking demonstrations, a BBQ sauce making contest, and a chef cookoff, among lots of other things! Of course, the farmer's market will also be in full swing, with special bbq-related vendors. Grill on!
- This weekend is Festival Latino! I have only been to Festival Latino for the food (and there's lots of it, and it's good) but I've heard there is lots of great music and dancing until all hours.
- Cafe Brioso will have a Barista Jam this Saturday; there will be lots of education and a latte art competition. I didn't know we had any latte artists in Columbus, so I'll be really interested to see some pictures of that even. Alas, you know where Lisa the Waitress is at 6pm on a Saturday night.
- *gasp!* I'm about to post an event in the 'burbs! This weekend is the Creekside Blues & Jazz festival in Gahanna! The event lasts Friday - Sunday and includes lots of music, a jazz brunch; lots of great things!
- This weekend, the Columbus Gay Men's Chorus will perform their tribute to Elton John. I've heard nothing but great things about CGMC, and I wish I didn't have to work all weekend because I'd love to go. Guess you'll just have to go and tell me all about it!
- This Thursday is Third Thursdays in the Short North. Stores will be open late so you can get your shop on, late-night style.
- This week, MadLab opens "Stones in His Pocket," a 2-man show set in Ireland. Our friend Kevin McClatchy stars!
- This Thursday, the Wexner Center's Drive-In series continues with The Mummy. Cash bar and settling in begins at 8pm, and the movie will begin around 9. Of course, all sorts of other great things are happening at the Wex, click over to their calendar for more info.
- This week is another 30 for $30 at the Burgundy Room, featuring the wines of the Southern Hemisphere.
- If you need some help getting our canning career started, OEFFA has an event for you this Sunday, where you can learn simple preserve and pickling recipes. The class takes place at Dodd Hall (OSU) and the suggested donation is $3 - $5. Click over to OEFFA for more information.
