Things to do in Columbus::July 2nd (?!) Edition
Can you believe this weather? It's been so cool and lovely.
And what a full day I've had!! First I worked in my cubicle. It's amazing how few distractions there are in a cubicle. That doesn't mean I'm ready to go back to it full time anytime soon - they won't let me go to the office in my jammie pants, first of all, and they also won't let me bring any cats into the office. And, just to prove I shouldn't be up early in the morning, I spilled my latte down the front of my new shirt walking in the front door. *sigh.* That's about par for the course for me - Husband calls me Princess Grace for a reason. And it isn't because I look like a famous movie star. Also, it is a little strange to be working in a cubicle which is full of wine (working for a wine company); but I can't drink any of it. Well, I don't really think about drinking wine at 9am anyway. It's all I can do to stay awake long enough for my first latte. So after work I filled the litter box, then took a nap, then took little Skinny Blue kitty to his new how with Crumpet and Jan Brady! Then Husband and I met up with other bloggers for the Morton's Steakhouse "Burgers for Bloggers" event and ate a giant and delicious burger (more later, with pics, or go to CU now if you can't wait and read Jim's version) and then, as if that weren't enough, I headed out to Bexley for the new Jeni's at the Bexley Gateway! whew! Now I am enjoying a nice little digestif in the form of Fernet Branca, am ready for bed. And maybe a diet.
Okay. So what's going on this week? It's the 4th of July! So that means the entire city will be a snarl of traffic basically all day tomorrow. Already today all the meters downtown are bagged. I'll be downtown tomorrow, well, downtownish, watching from a safe distance. Providing I get all the housework done I have to do, make cherry syrup with the rest of the cherries I picked this week, answer my emails (ha!), etc. etc.
I do have to say that with the holiday this weekend there aren't a ton of super cool events going on. Most are a rehash.
Without further ado, here's whats been going on this week . . . as always, leave any additional events in the comments.
- This Saturday is the Gallery Hop in the Short North!
- Every Saturday through October, you can pretend you're a tourist in your own city by taking a tour bus through Columbus for the Columbus Discovery Tours; tours are 2 1/5 hours and begin at 9:45am. Tickets are $30.
- How about taking a torchlight tour down the Hocking River? That sounds romantic. I seem to remember something about a bonfire, marshmallows and wine at the end of the trip. $35 per canoe (that's pretty cheap for two).
- Friday is the Doo Dah parade. It's always a hoot and sometimes there's free warm beer. Also, you can pop in and show up for the parade and you don't have to sign up for anything, just march.
- This week, the CAPA Summer Movie Series will show 1776 Saturday & Sunday.
Okay, I know it's brief and I apologize; I am sure you have lots of holiday plans with your long 3 day weekends. I'll be working. Yep, even on the 4th. There's no rest for the waitresses.
