Once upon a time, when I was a freshman in college, a loud and hilarious gal from Bayonne NJ named Marge used to enter our classroom (the big one, with everyone) and find me in the crowd and start singing the "Michael Jackson" birthday song from The Simpsons. "Lisa it's your birthday, happy birthday Lisa." Inevitably, someone would wish me a happy birthday. No matter that this might have been the 13th time in a month Marge had sung me the happy birthday, and no matter that my birthday came before the school year even started. I finally just started telling everyone that it was indeed my birthday. If they called me out on it, I would point out that they had wished me a happy birthday only 10 days ago, so who was the idiot in the situation?
I have told you that story for no other reason than to announce a celebration of birthdays with some giveaways. I have shamelessly stolen this idea from Sarah at the Delicious Life and Tastespotting. I know it's a pain in the blog when someone steals your ideas, but hopefully the fact that I'm giving full credit and that we are 3000 miles apart will soften the irritation.
So. September is the best month of the year, of course, with the best weather, the best of the late summer and early fall produce, and of course, the month when the most fabulous people were born - Roger Waters, Queen Elizabeth I, Buddy Holly, Gloria Gaynor, Peter Sellers, Moby, Harry Connick Jr, DH Lawrence and O. Henry, Jesse Owens, Oliver Stone, Agatha Christie, Peter Falk, Twiggy & Mama Cass share a birthday, Bill Murray, Stephen King, HG Wells, Nick Cave, Ray Charles and John Coltrane, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jim Henson, Shel Silverstein, William Faulkner, TS Eliot - I could go on and on.
And of course, Lisa the Waitress.
So. This is how it will go. I will announce periodic giveaways throughout the month. You will leave comments. You will choose a number. I will use random integer generator to choose the winner (another stolen idea). You will provide information necessary for me to get the prize to you; you must trust me that I will not stalk you.
I have cookbooks galore, tickets to events, food things I love - all sorts of things. Of course, if you represent a product you think my readers would love, please send me an email and we can arrange an exchange! Good luck!
