CSA & Farm Market Report for October 11th

What a nice day today.  Perfect.  Is it just me, or are the trees changing really early this year?  Am I just getting old?  Resistant to the coming Autumn?

Whatever the case, it's still 80 degrees today, so no complaints from me.

I slept in today and only hit the Clintonville market, where I picked up my weekly supply of Gretna Grillin' cheese and cheddar curds from Blue Jacket Creamery.

Global Gallery has taken over the space where the flower shop used to be at High and Orchard, and it's really nice.  If you are looking for fair trade coffee and inexpensive sculptures, textiles, and baskets, it's a great place to stop by.  They were serving coffee outside of the shop today.

I also picked up my Wayward Seed CSA - and I'll post pictures soon.  Today's share included green tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, kale, and a nice big squash I haven't seen before.  I'll have to look into what sort it might be.

I also bought some kabocha squash today, my favorite for eating and soup making.  Who knows what form it will take this week?

So, what did you get this week?

I actually ended up getting more than I expected from this time of year......acorn squash, tomatoes, 2 dozen pullet eggs, beets, cabbage, purple bell peppers and I can't remember the rest.

What do you serve your Gretna grillin' cheese with?

I go to the market primarily to get my local meat, so let's see...I got a beef roast from Raven Rocks. From Curly Tail I got sausages, bacon, pork chops, ground pork. And then I got some lamb. This isn't from the farmer's market...but I also made ricotta cheese today as well as an awesome meat sauce. I was going to make pasta but ran out of energy. It's going to be a lasagna of sorts and it's going to be awesome! And made of lots of local ingredients! (like the ricotta...in my kitchen from Ohio dairy products)

BTW, I think you were the one asking a few months ago - I talked to the farmers over at Pop & Judy's Patch today, and talked them into bringing a whole bunch of different varieties of local dried beans to market next week. :)

It was a light week for me - I got a couple of dumpling squash from Persinger Farms @ The North Market, some rainbow chard, new potatoes, and baked goods from Sassafras Bakery @ Worthington, and some eggs and a half gallon of that aforementioned free cream from Snowville @ Clintonville. It really was a perfect day for the farmers market, though. :) I hope the weather holds for the Worlds Biggest Potluck event tomorrow.

Spicy Arugula from Wayward seed, as well as some potatoes. Sweet potatoes. Cortland Apples. Milk from Snowville Cremery, per usual, but they were also giving away half and half and whipping cream.

Right now I have 2 cups of cream being cultured with 2% Greek yogurt so that I can make butter tomorrow! Your post from a few months ago inspired me.
