Well. I think Spring might actually be here. Of course, Spring in Central Ohio means a lot of slightly chilly rain and everything turning to mud. Our tiny little urban yard is turning green and our fennel, oregano, parsley, and sage are all growing by leaps and bounds.
This means the farmer's markets and asparagus and strawberries are just around the corner! I can't wait!
There are lots of things going on in our fair city this week. As always, if you have an event to add, please leave it in the comments or shoot me an email.
- One of my favorite events of the year takes place this Saturday: the CCAD Student Art Sale! I love the art sale. I have been trying more and more to get more art in our lives and house, and this is a great place for those on a budget. The art is amazing - just to see what these kids are putting out is really inspiring. It's fun to talk to the artists about their work. If you would like to get a jump on the crowds, there is early admission for $50; regular admission begins at 10am and admission is $5. Lines are typically long, so get there early.
- Also on Saturday, ProMusica Columbus will be performing Handel, Haydn, and Mendelssohn at the Josephinum Pontifical College. Fun fact: the Josephinum is actually part of the Vatican! Our own little piece of Italy here in Central Ohio. It's also very beautiful.
- Celebrate Earth day early this Friday by taking a tour of Fossils at the Statehouse. You will be led by expert geologists from The Ohio State University. The event is free, but RSVPs are requested.
- Vaud-Villities returns this weekend at Vet's Memorial!
- Art in Bloom takes place this weekend at the Columbus Museum of Art. For this event, floral designers create arrangements inspired by works of Art. (Chef Kimura from Kihachi has presented arrangements in the past!) The theme for this year's Art in Bloom is the Great Gatsby. There are numerous events, including a dinner, luncheon, and high tea.
- Speaking of the Great Gatsby, BalletMet will be bringing the book to the stage next week. Whet your appetite Friday by hearing the choreographer speak.
- I love paper and all things paper. This weekend, European Papers presents Artiscape, a conference for all things artsy-crafty. Well, paper-related arts, anyway. The event takes place at the Holiday Inn Capitol Square. There will be a marketplace for buying your favorite embellishments, an outsider art show, and even a high tea.
- Lastly, mark your calendars for next Sunday, the 25th. Wild Goose Creative will host an Adult Play Date devoted to playing Guitar Hero. This idea was started as kind of a joke on Twitter but gained momentum when lots of people expressed interest in getting together. The event is free (but you should bring a donation to be nice); bring snacks and drinks!
