Special thanks to my sister for posting this memory on Facebook! This was taken some time in the 80s (I'm guessing 84ish). This is my dear Grandfather (see? I keep telling you I am from Amish stock!) stirring apple butter. Our family has the definitive apple butter recipe in all of Amish land. The 2 copper-lined kettles we make it in are so cherished that their ownership is in debate amongst my father and all of his siblings.
My mother is on the left with the fabulous sunglasses.
Memories. One day I'll write a little essay on my Grandfather. He used to recite poetry to me and was a huge baseball fan.
*By the way - my sister is working on a small version of our apple butter (the current recipe starts off with something like 30 gallons of apple sauce). After she tests it, and after I confirm I will not be disinherited for posting it, I will post it.
