Last week I was reading through my feeds and paid special attention to Ruhlman, being that I was about to meet him and all, and he mentioned that he was getting a store through a new online shopping service called Open Sky. Since I follow anything my Internet Heroes tell me to do, I instantly applied for my own store.
In the past, I have briefly tried having an Amazon store, but they are so clunky and outdated; their hosted badges take forever to load and I have always taken the store down after a day or two.
But Open Sky seemed like it might be different. Open Sky is bringing back an old-fashioned idea of having shop keepers who actually know the products they are selling. They use the products and are confident they are valuable. Open Sky encourages its shopkeepers to show videos and pictures of themselves using the products they are selling, and the shopkeepers write their own copy for the items based upon our experiences.
I like the idea!
Strangely enough, I actually spoke to real, living people from Open Sky. Their CEO sent me an email. I passed the vetting process and, if all goes well, my Open Sky store will be up and running in time for holiday shopping!
I will let you know as soon as the store is open, and I hope you will do some shopping there, because I get a kickback. And every kickback is another restaurant I can visit, or another place to which I can travel and tell you about, another strange ingredient I can test out.
Because of my long and fabulous relationship with the amazing Nancy at the Cookware Sorcerer (she was my first advertiser, and hasn't stopped since! xoxoxoxo), I am trying to put things in my store which won't typically be found in her store.
And, aside from kitchen and cooking items, I might include the occasional cat item. Because, you know, we foodbloggers love to talk about our cats.
While we are waiting for my store to open, please peruse other cool stores:
