New Online Community

So.  This is something I have wanted to do ever since I started Restaurant Widow.  I have started a message board.  I thought it might be a chance to have more reader involvement and discussion, and maybe we can have a daily question or topic or something.

I hope you will participate!  I know it takes a lot of readers to start a discussion, but I also know a lot of you spend your days cooped up in cubicles, so maybe it will be something nice to pass the time.

I've started a few threads, so right now it's just me talking to myself.  Woohoo!  I will be adding more threads in the next few days. Please feel free to start any threads!  If you have suggestions, complaints, opinions, or anything, please let me know.

A few things about the community - there are ads.  When you sign up, you will get a list of offers (you can refuse all).  If people post and participate, I will pay the extra fee to have the ads removed, but I decided to wait and see.  If you like what you see, and would like to see it without ads, you can contribute via the "community chest" at the bottom of the page.  Any donations can be applied directly to the board, removing ads, getting a domain name, adding storage space, etc.

Please let me know what you think!

tiny blog

Okay.  I wasn't going to write about this, mainly because I'm afraid of all of my readers judging me for being the worst cat parent ever, and not getting Mimi fixed, because I am too lazy, and thought I'd be able to keep her inside and not let her get herself into trouble.

BUT.  I was wrong.  Humans are no match for the biological drive of other mammals.

And then, when she did get out, I just couldn't bare the thought of getting her "problem" "solved."

Husband reminded me that all of the tinies have found good homes and are well taken care of, and he chided me for keeping the tiny blog all to myself and my friends.  And besides that, they are pretty amazingly cute.

So.  I won't be writing about the new crop of tinies after this, but I thought I'd link to their blog, tiny blog.

This batch is cute.  Really, really cute.  They are all gray stripedy.  Some have polka-dotted tummies.  So far they seem hungry and healthy, with fat little round bellies.

You Can Stalk Me on Twitter

Just in case you'd like to see how many times a day I'm sitting on the couch eating, you can now follow me at Twitter.  Prepare to be dazzled by my amazingly glamorous and scintillating life.  We'll see how it goes.  I wish you could add pictures, too, because I am about to get a new cell phone and it would be nice to incorporate my twittering in with my moblogging.  If there's a way, I'm sure one of you will let me know!

Call for Suggestions - Philadelphia

Husband and I will be making a whirlwind trip to Philadelphia in early October.  We will literally be there Thursday afternoon through Saturday morning; we need one low-key restaurant suggestion for dinner, and then a (hopefully) celebratory dinner suggestion.  I will be spending a day going solo - which will be at least partially spent at the Mutter museum, a place I've been dying to visit for years, so a lunch spot nearby would be helpful.  Anything else I should see?

Of course, everything will be documented.

See?  That's why I love you guys.

Housekeeping Notes

And we're back!  Typepad had a little downtime today, but we're back.  I'm sorry for anyone who was crushed by being incomunicado.  I am, obviously, totally kidding.  I mean, I am sorry, but I wouldn't think anyone would actually be crushed by...

Nevermind.  We're back!

What do You Eat When it's Just You?

After writing about Alone in the Kitchen, and receiving a comment from a reader who is increasingly finding himself alone for dinner, I thought I'd pose the question to you, dear readers:

What do you eat when you're dining for one?

Do you have a favorite dish you'd never fix for company?  A favorite bar you haunt for those wings you can't eat when you significant other is around?  Think the olives in your gin martini count as dinner?  Let's talk about it.

Leave a comment and tell everyone if it's something you cook, include a recipe and, if you'd like, a picture.  If it's somewhere you go, where and why.  If you'd like, you can even wax poetic on whether you like eating alone or not, whatever.  Here, if it makes you feel better, I will confess that sometimes when I'm too lazy to cook but have to eat, I will eat smoked trout right out of the can with Rohini's hot pepper chutney dumped over, and maybe a hard cooked egg.  See?  You'd never be that pathetic, right?

Housekeeping Notes

Dear Readers,

Have I told you lately that I love you?  I really do.  I am a little behind on my e-mails, and I apologize if you are waiting for a response.  Once upon a time, when I worked for Giant Clothing Retailer, I was required to answer all e-mails within 24 hours.  I must be having Corporate Nightmare flashback rebellion.

As a sidenote, I use Gmail, and although I love it, it would be nice if there were a folder feature (got that, Google?  Thanks).  Then I could put all of my "To be answered" e-mails in that folder and feel a nice sense of completion when I move them back to the general pool.

I am going to switch to a respond to questions in the comments section format, so if you are waiting for a reply, you might check the comment section for a group reply.  Of course, if you e-mailed me privately, I won't be posting a response in the comment section.

I promise to catch up on my e-mails over the weekend (that's restaurant weekend, mind you, Sunday & Monday).

Thank you for your patience and for reading.  Your support and comments keep me inspired and encouraged to keep cooking and eating!

Cheers!

Housekeeping Notes

Based upon feedback from a few readers, I am temporarily making it so that you will not have to enter a verification to post comments.  A few people have told me they get impatient with it and can't get the site to accept the comment.  The purpose of this is, of course, to keep spam at a minimum.  So, I will give it a trial, and we'll see how it goes.  If you comment on the same post twice in a row, or make more than 3 comments at a time, you might have to enter a verifiction (this is because the spambots usually attack all at once)  If I get spam, I'll have no choice but to put the verification up again.  So, now you have no excuse!  Comment!
