Columbus is finally getting our own magazine devoted exclusively to the food scene! I am really excited that Edible Columbus is just around the corner, and I hope they are wildly successful! The first issue comes out next week, and there is a launch party next Friday at Hills Market!
Official Press Release....
New regional food magazine celebrates Ohio’s bounty of local farms, foods, producers, artisans and restaurants.
Columbus, Ohio--Edible Columbus part of the Edible Communities publications, will make its seasonal
debut on April 1, 2010, offering interesting stories, recipes and insight on our local food community.
The content for Edible Columbus includes profiles on Ohio farmers, producers, and local sustainability efforts as well as seasonal recipes, culinary events and articles devoted to supporting our local community. “Ohio is home to rich agriculture, food artisans and a strong, growing community of food enthusiasts and advocates who believe in supporting their local economy,” said Tricia Wheeler, Edible Columbus Publisher and French Culinary Institute graduate. “Each issue of our magazine enables readers to discover the food treasures being grown and produced in central Ohio along with highlighting the flavors of each season.”
Wheeler, an Ohio native, surrounded herself with Edible magazines while studying at the French Culinary Institute in New York City. When she returned to Columbus, she pored over her magazines and thought that Ohio was ripe for this type of publication. “Supporting the local food market is a major step toward a more sustainable future,” said Wheeler. “Fortunately for us who live in Ohio, food and agriculture is the #1 industry providing us with an array of opportunities to support local farms, farmers’ markets, producers and restaurants.”
There are 62 Edibles across the country all independently owned but sharing the same mission to connect consumers with local food; Seventy-five percent of the magazine’s content will spotlight the Central Ohio local food community and the rest of the magazine will focus on regional and national food stories.
The web site, www.ediblecolumbus.com will feature food blogs, recipes and additional information on local food festivals, events and educational programs.
A special event to celebrate Edible Columbus’ arrival is scheduled for Friday, April 2 at the Hills Market. To be added to the invitation list, please visit www.ediblecolumbus.com or the Edible Columbus Facebook page.
